You can now book an actual trip to space. Yes, for real! Today Orion Span announced that travel professionals can start booking clients for a future stay at its luxury space hotel.
A 12-day trip to Aurora Station—the first-ever luxury space hotel—will begin in 2022 with Orion Span, which will provide guests with an authentic astronaut experience. Pricing for this once-in-a-lifetime experience? Rates start at $9.5 million pp, and a deposit of $80,000 is required for each traveler, which can be placed by traditional payment methods, as well as cryptocurrency. Agent’s commission will be paid in full after the completion of the trip.
“Since opening our hotel reservations in April, we’ve been met with great excitement as space enthusiasts from around the world have moved quickly to secure their reservations,” said Frank Bunger, CEO and founder of Orion Span, in press materials. “The first six months of reservations are already sold out and much of the interest we’ve seen since our launch has been from travel professionals with interested clients. We’re pleased to now offer a seamless booking experience.”
During their stay at Aurora Station, travelers will soar 200 miles above the Earth’s surface in a Low Earth Orbit where they’ll be able to enjoy the feeling of zero gravity, gaze at the northern and southern aurora through many windows, soar over their hometowns, and take part in research experiments such as growing food while in orbit—which they can take home with them as the ultimate souvenir. Guests will also take part in a virtual reality experience on the holodeck, and be able to stay in touch with family and friends back home via high-speed Internet access. The hotel will orbit Earth every 90 minutes, meaning those aboard will see an average of 16 sunrises and sunsets every 24 hours. Upon their return to Earth, guests will be treated to a hero’s welcome home.
