The airline's new main cabin perks make long-haul flying in economy much more bearable.
Whether you're flying economy class on Delta Air Lines, Air France, or Norwegian Air, a long-haul main cabin flight is universally the least exciting part of anyone's vacation. As someone with family in London, who frequently flies budget airlines out of New York to visit home, the economy flight is definitely the part of each trip I look forward to the least.
In July, Delta announced that it wanted to be the carrier to change that, with new main cabin perks that would, if not resemble first class, at least make travelers feel more looked after than they have in almost any long-haul economy cabin before. The new service was trialed and perfected across hundreds of flights from Portland to Tokyo over the last year, but as of November, the new experience has finally launched for all passengers on each Delta Air Lines long-haul flight.
On Thursday night, I was able to be among the first passengers to try the new economy class experience on a red-eye flight from New York's John F. Kennedy airport to London Heathrow. Here's how the new perks measured up.
